Turgen Valley

Turgen Valley is a scenic river valley about 75km from Almaty cutting into the mountains at the village of Turgen. A popular destination for day trips from the city, it is know for it’s waterfalls, trout farm, golden man statue, petroglyphs, and it is also the gateway to the Assy Plateau

Being close to the city, it is a good destination for a day trip from the city or for a weekend getaway. For those who want to explore deeper into the mountains, there are many possibilities for longer trips also.

Turgen valley offers a variety of activities: Day hikes, overnight hikes, multi-day treks, horse riding, mountain biking, white water rafting.

Option 1 – Horse Riding, Village Culture

Drive to Tauturgen, a village in Turgen Valley.
1.5 hours of driving.
Meet some of the villagers and maybe have Kazakh tea with them.
Meet our horses, and receive instruction for those who are novices.
Ride from the village into the mountains.
Return to the village.
4 hours riding.
Return to Almaty.
